  What is LightSpeed for iPad?

  LightSpeed for iPad brings the LightSpeed Point of Sale experience to Apple's acclaimed tablet platform, allowing retailers to showcase their products with Show & Tell and process transactions anywhere. LightSpeed for iPad is retail's first interactive point of sale system, combining next-level personalized selling with inventory scanning, wireless payments and the powerful retail workflows of LightSpeed. Invoices are saved in LightSpeed, which includes backend retail management features like purchasing and reporting in a comprehensive and easy-to-use Mac desktop app.

  What are the main features?

  LightSpeed for iPad offers the ability to:

  What does it cost?

  LightSpeed for iPad is a free download on the iTunes App Store. A LightSpeed Server with 1 available user license per LightSpeed for iPad client is required. LightSpeed Server licenses start at $749 USD for a single user.

  Can you use it without owning LightSpeed?

  LightSpeed for iPad requires you to log into a licensed LightSpeed Server running on a Mac. However, you can test drive LightSpeed for iPad with the 30 Day Demo of LightSpeed.

  Do I need a Mac?

  Yes. LightSpeed Server requires a Mac to run on. The LightSpeed for Mac desktop app is also required to do your setup and configuration as well as backend administration functions such as inventory management and reporting. LightSpeed for iPad 1.0 also requires the LightSpeed for Mac desktop app for completing returns and exchanges. This functionality will be included in the iPad app in a future update. If you own a 1 user license of LightSpeed, you can log out of LightSpeed for iPad to run the LightSpeed for Mac desktop app to perform backend administration functions or returns/exchanges.

• Configuration + Licensing

  What version of LightSpeed is required?

  LightSpeed 3.6 is required for LightSpeed for iPad.

  How does LightSpeed for iPad connect to a LightSpeed database?

  LightSpeed for iPad can connect to a LightSpeed database over Wi-fi, 3G or over a VPN.

  Does LightSpeed for iPad count as a user license when logged into the LightSpeed database?

  Yes. You need a LightSpeed Server with 1 available user license per LightSpeed for iPad client. For example: A 5-User LightSpeed Server can allow concurrent logins from up to 5 Mac, iPad or Mobile clients at one time. It is recommended that you upgrade your LightSpeed installation to accommodate any additional LightSpeed for iPad clients.

  How do I keep my LightSpeed for iPad app up-to-date?

  Periodically, LightSpeed for iPad updates through the iTunes App Store will become available for download. Unless otherwise stated, you would not need to update your LightSpeed installation for Mac.

• Hardware

  What hardware is available for LightSpeed for iPad?

  LightSpeed for iPad is compatible with the Socket barcode scanner, iDynamo credit card swipe and the Ingenico i6580 terminal for wirelessly processing credit and debit transactions.

  Where can I buy it?

  The Socket barcode scanner can be purchased from your local LightSpeed Reseller, from LightSpeed Sales or on our online store. The iDynamo is available through credit card processing partner Merchant Warehouse. The Ingenico i6580 is available through several of our credit card processing partners. Contact your provider for more info.

  Which Apple products does the LightSpeed for iPad work with?

  LightSpeed for iPad works with iPad and iPad 2. iOS 5 or higher is required.

  Can I use LightSpeed for iPad without any external hardware?

  Yes, but you will not be able to scan product barcodes or swipe credit cards. However you can search for products and process credit cards manually.

  Can I use the LightSpeed for iPad with other iPad, iPhone or iPod scanners or credit card swipes?

  No, not at this time.

• Functionality

  Can I connect to a LightSpeed Server with Bonjour?

  Yes, LightSpeed for iPad will allow you to find and connect to LightSpeed installations and demos on your wireless network over Bonjour.

  Can I search for customers in my LightSpeed database and attach them to an invoice?

  Yes.

  Can I enter a Walk In customer?

  Yes.

  Can I sell products with serial numbers?

  Yes, serial numbers can be scanned with a Socket scanner or entered manually.

  Can I use gift cards?

  LightSpeed for iPad can sell, activate, redeem and recharge gift cards.

  Can I change the salesperson or tax code on an invoice?

  Yes.

  Can i apply a discount across all line items on an invoice?

  Yes.

  Can i enter printed and internal notes on an invoice?

  Yes.

  Can I do returns?

  No, returns are not supported in LightSpeed for iPad 1.0, and must currently be done on the Mac version of LightSpeed. We are looking to offer this functionality in a future update.

  What barcodes can be read by the Socket scanner?

  The Socket scanner can read UPC barcodes printed on product boxes as well as Code 39 (C39) barcodes generated by LightSpeed's Print Product Labels feature.

  Can I edit line items on an invoice?

  Yes, you can edit quantities, selling prices, discounts and product descriptions.

• Receipts

  Can I email receipts?

  LightSpeed for iPad can email receipts to customers if the Mail Server is configured in the LightSpeed setup panel. Emails are sent via LightSpeed Server.

  Can I print receipts?

  LightSpeed for iPad can print receipts via LightSpeed Server to select local or networked Star Micronics printers. Simply select a printer in the Setup panel on LightSpeed for iPad.

• Payments

  Can customers pay by credit or debit card?

  Yes. You must have a valid payment processing account set up in LightSpeed to process credit card transactions. PIN-based debit transactions require a supported external payment terminal, such as the Ingenico i6580 payment terminal.

  How do customers sign for their purchase?

  Customers can sign for their purchase on-screen in LightSpeed for iPad with their finger or by using a stylus, and their receipt is emailed to them at the end of the transaction.

  What payment processors are supported?

  LightSpeed for iPad processes card payments on the LightSpeed Server, so it supports all processors supported by LightSpeed. These processors include Axia, Merchant Warehouse, HPS, Authorize.net and Tyro Payments. At this time, payment processing is only available for U.S. customers and for Australian customers using Tyro Payments. Read the Tyro Payments FAQ for more information on using LightSpeed for iPad in Australia. LightSpeed is currently exploring processing options for international installations.

  How do i assign a payment terminal to an iPad?

  Simply select a payment terminal set up via LightSpeed Server in the Setup panel on LightSpeed for iPad. Multiple iPads can be set up to share the same payment terminal.

  Can LightSpeed for iPad kick a cash drawer?

  Yes, LightSpeed for iPad can kick cash drawers connected via a Star Micronics receipt printer.

  Can I use LightSpeed for iPad with the Tills feature in LightSpeed?

  Yes, LightSpeed for iPad can join a till and process payments if the Tills feature is enabled in LightSpeed.
